DUNSFOLD PARISH COUNCIL NEWS - 8TH JULY 2008

DUNSFOLD PARK NEW TOWN APPLICATION WA/2008/0788

The dates of the Briefing and Committee Decision meetings in Waverley Council Chamber have been changed again due to the time required by the Statutory Consultees, such as Surrey Highways, to comment . The new dates for the meetings, both at the Waverley Council Chamber, are:-

  • Wednesday 3rd September 6.30 pm - A technical briefing meeting of the Joint Planning Committee;
  • Wednesday 17th September 6.30 pm - Joint Planning Committee decision-making meeting.
At the decision-making meeting the Applicant, the affected Town and Parish Councils and individual objectors to the planning application will each have a total 30 minutes to speak in aggregate, each accepted speaker being limited to 6 minutes. This will be followed by councillors' questions and points of clarification on the application.

There are also opportunities to speak at the Briefing meeting. Dunsfold Parish Council have been registered to speak at both meetings, but if it is considered that there is no need to speak twice, and that the briefing meeting is the more important one, it may decide not to exercise its right to speak again at the second meeting.

Anyone wanting further information or wishing to register a wish to speak should contact Robin Pellow, head of democratic services on 01483 523222 or email him at robin.pellow@waverley.gov.uk. Waverley will clearly have to ration the speaking slots and will wish to avoid repetition of points made in the numerous submissions all of which can be seen on the Waverley website.

DUNSFOLD'S RED TELEPHONE BOX WILL REMAIN

The Parish Council's case to retain the box and seek the exercise by Waverley of its right to veto BT's removal of the box has been accepted and acted on by Waverley.

A Planning application has been made for
Dunsfold Park New Town

2,600 dwellings - 6,350 residents - 3,000+ cars

This development will have a major impact on anyone living in the towns and villages in the Guildford - Horsham - Haslemere triangle. The new town will be 2½ times the size of Chiddingfold and will be built in 10 years rather than over 1,000 years. Our infrastructure and precious countryside cannot cope with such a massive and rapid increase in population.

  • If you live or travel on the A281, the A283 or the many adjoining country lanes - you will be affected.
  • If you use the local services - hospitals, schools, railways, etc. - you will be affected.
  • If you love our beautiful local countryside - you will be affected.
Register your views now with Waverley Borough Council.
  • By letter - addressed to the Corporate Services and Planning Department, Council Offices, Waverley Borough Council, The Burys, Godalming, Surrey GU7 1HR
  • By e-mail - to planconsult@waverley.gov.uk
  • On-line - by completing the form on Waverley's website www.waverley.gov.uk
You MUST quote reference WA/2008/0788 on all communications with Waverley

URGENT - TO ALL DUNSFOLD VILLAGERS

FROM DUNSFOLD PARISH COUNCIL

DUNSFOLD PARK’S PLANNING APPLICATION
FOR A NEW TOWN ON THE AERODROME

This proposes over 10 years:

  • to enlarge the small business park with an extra 1000 employees to add to the current 700, and
  • to build on the eastern two thirds of the runway areas 2600 dwellings for over 6000 new residents in a new settlement, adding to the traffic movements on local roads by at least some 4/5000 employee/resident cars and vehicles visiting and servicing the residents and businesses.
The Application will be decided by Waverley by 25th July. Representations on the Application should be sent to Waverley as soon as possible preferably by the deadline of 30th May (but that failing, by mid June) quoting the Application number WA/2008/0788 – by post to the Planning Department, Waverley Borough Council, Council Offices, The Burys, Godalming, Surrey GU7 1HR or by email to planconsult@waverley.gov.uk

DUNSFOLD PARISH COUNCIL has resolved to oppose the application and urges you to send in your objections as soon as possible. There will be other powerful objections including from the CPRE, of which this Council is a member, and from Stop Dunsfold Park New Town (www.stopnewtown.com), but the volume of individual objections is most important and these will also count at the likely eventual Public Inquiry.

Amongst the reasons for this Council’s unanimous opposition to the proposal are:-

  • It is contrary to all Local, County, Regional and National planning policies. These should be upheld in relation to this area which is part of, adjacent to or surrounded by AONB and AGLV land, the Surrey Hills and the West Weald historic landscape;
  • The site is remote from local services, and public transport;
  • The local rural road network cannot cope with existing traffic, let alone the huge increase in traffic from and to the new settlement, nor can the network be improved to the level required;
  • The site proposal, relying on self-containment and hypothetical and unenforceable policies to reduce the need to travel, is unworkable.
  • A new settlement many times the size of the neighbouring villages, which have developed over many centuries, would wholly unbalance the area.
  • The overall Waverley housing requirement (via Government and the South East Plan) for additional dwellings in the Borough up to 2026 is likely to involve only a modest increase over current levels. Any such increase should be met, as before, by the current policy of limited building within existing towns and settlements where the new and affordable housing is required, as has occurred, and is occurring in Dunsfold.
THERE IS NO NEED FOR THIS NEW SETTLEMENT.

Barrie Pople, Vice-Chairman, Dunsfold Parish Council

Dunsfold Fire Station needs more On-Call Firefighters.

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service is looking to recruit more firefighters for Dunsfold Fire Station in Binhams Meadow, specifically for cover at nights and weekends.

The crew at Dunsfold work to the Retained Duty System. They have other jobs but are available from either work or home to attend incidents when their pager goes off. They also educate people to prevent fires and reduce Road Traffic Collisions.

Candidates need to be reasonably fit and be available to attend the Fire Station within 4 mins from either their home or work whilst on call. Retained Duty System Firefighters receive the same hourly rate of pay as their wholetime colleagues. Crews at Dunsfold attended over 45 incidents last year and on average earned over £3,500 each.

To get more information about joining Surrey Fire and Rescue Service at Dunsfold and help Make Surrey Safer go to www.surrey-fire.gov.uk/retainedfirefighters or come down to the Fire Station in Binhams Meadow on Thursday evenings from 19:30 - 21:30 hrs and talk to the firefighters.
